Big tech dominates the hosting infrastructure (e.g. AWS), and most of the popular web hosting/site building companies are 'lock-ins' (proprietary). Avoid them by hosting your site with a company that does not uses big tech infrastructure and operates on ethical principles.
Also listed here are hosting companies that can spin up instances of 'Fediverse' apps such as Mastodon, Pixelfed and Peertube. These can be tricky to self-host so you can easily escape big tech by getting on of these hosting companies to do the heavy lifting for you.
